DraftKings set for Colorado sportsbook launch with Twin River

Sports betting and daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings is to launch a retail and digital sportsbook in Colorado via a new partnership with casino operator Twin River Worldwide.

Under the agreement, DraftKings will open a new retail sportsbook at the Twin River Mardi Gras Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado, and also roll out its online and mobile sportsbooks in the state.

Twin River only finalised the acquisition of the Mardi Gras casino last week, with the operator also purchasing the Golden Gates and Golden Gulch in Black Rock, Colorado.

Though still subject to regulatory and licensure approvals, should the launch go ahead, Colorado would become the sixth state in which DraftKings offers online and mobile sports betting, following New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Indiana and West Virginia.

In addition, Colorado would become the sixth state to feature a DraftKings retail sportsbook, after Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, New Jersey and New York.

“Completing the acquisition of Golden Gates, Golden Gulch and Mardi Gras casinos in Black Hawk, Colorado last week included the right to three sports gaming licenses in Colorado and will really allow us to expand our footprint here well beyond our Arapahoe Park racetrack and Off-Track Betting network,” Twin River president and chief executive George Papanier said.

“We are very excited for this newly-formed partnership with DraftKings that will allow us to bring sports betting to the greater Denver market, not only with their mobile betting access, but also with an exciting retail sportsbook location inside our newly acquired casino.”

DraftKings’ chief business officer Ezra Kucharz added: “Coast to coast, DraftKings is committed to providing states across the country with the ultimate experience in legal sports betting.

“Twin River holds a mutual pledge to providing exciting, real-time gaming opportunities, and we look forward to working alongside them to introduce Colorado sports fans to our award-winning product.”

Last week, DraftKings also confirmed it had rolled out the OpenGaming product suite from Scientific Games in the state of New Jersey.

Under the arrangement, DraftKings has access to the entire library of available titles from Scientific Games, including in-house games and third-party content from partner studios.

In related news, FanDuel has agreed a similar deal with Twin River, though only covering the roll-out of a mobile app in Colorado.
