São Paulo, 9 April 2026 – The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) convened its first Integrity Working Group in South America, which took place in São Paulo, Brazil, on 9 April 2026, bringing together government authorities, sports bodies and leading licensed betting operators to strengthen coordinated action against match-fixing.
Sponsored by Galerabet, the meeting focused on aligning stakeholders around measures to detect, prevent and sanction betting-related corruption as Brazil’s regulated market develops.
Participants included Fábio Macorin, Undersecretary of Monitoring and Inspection at the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), and Giovanni Rocco, National Secretary of Sports Betting (Ministry of Sport), alongside representatives from sports organisations such as CONMEBOL and the Paulista Football Federation (FPF), as well as IBIA members licensed in Brazil.
The event programme combined market analysis with operational insights from both the betting industry and sports sector, highlighting the role of IBIA’s monitoring system and information sharing in identifying suspicious betting activity. IBIA led discussions on how account-level data sharing and international alert systems can strengthen oversight and protect the integrity of competitions.
Marcos Sabiá, CEO of Galerabet said: “At Galerabet, integrity is one of our core values. We actively work to ensure a safe, transparent, and responsible betting environment. That is why we invest in preventing match-fixing and believe in collaboration among operators, sports organizations, and regulators. We remain firmly committed to actions that strengthen the industry’s integrity and help build a sustainable, safe, and constantly evolving betting market for everyone.”
Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said: “Today’s IBIA Integrity Working Group brings together regulators, sports bodies and operators to strengthen cooperation and deliver a coordinated response to match-fixing. The Working Group reflects the growing emphasis on cross-sector collaboration in Brazil and highlights IBIA’s role in supporting regulated markets through practical and effective integrity solutions, particularly as match-fixing remains a cross-border challenge.”
Match-fixing is a global threat that impacts both sporting competitions and regulated betting markets. Addressing it requires effective international monitoring, structured data sharing and close cross-border cooperation. IBIA’s Global Monitoring and Alert Platform (Global MAP), with over 90 member operators, is designed to detect and act on suspicious activity wherever it occurs, helping to safeguard the integrity of Brazilian sport and its regulated betting market. Leading gambling data and intelligence company H2 Gambling Capital has calculated that IBIA members account for 90% of the onshore federally licensed betting turnover in Brazil while IBIA Global MAP monitors over US$300bn in betting turnover per annum globally.
As Brazil’s regulatory framework requires licensed operators to be part of an integrity monitoring system, IBIA continues to work with operators and stakeholders to support compliance and strengthen market protections through its Global MAP.
The event follows the recent publication of IBIA’s Q1 integrity report and an IBIA Payment Provider Forum guide designed to help payment providers in Brazil combat illegal sports betting, strengthen market protections and maintain the integrity of betting and sporting events.
