BetKansas.com recently confirmed that the Kansas Lottery along with the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission will finally announce the official launch date of Kansas Sports Betting on August 18, 2022, setting the stage for Kansas to join the more than 30 states that have sports betting in place across the country.

“Expect an official announcement tomorrow (8/18/22) in the early afternoon about sports betting in Kansas, including an official start date and what platforms/providers that will be available,”

said the source, who confirmed Thursday’s announcement on the condition of anonymity.

Sportsbooks in Kansas will likely have the chance to begin accepting wagers as soon as the Sept. 8 date that lawmakers set out when SB 84 (which legalized sports betting in Kansas) was hammered out this spring, though no official start time has been made public yet.

Chris Boan, reporter for BetKansas.com, broke the news recently via Twitter. Boan, our Sports Betting Analyst and Reporter for BetKansas.com is available for commentary.

Key Takeaways:

  • State regulators approved draft regulations late last week, moving the Kansas closer to sports betting. They are also working to license potential sportsbook operators for the launch.
  • Industry insiders, such as former Michigan State Rep. and current Head of Government Affairs at Sportradar Brant Iden, see the Kansas sports betting market coming online this fall.
  • Director of Wagering at the Kansas Racing & Gaming Commission Todd Allen says they have a “good foundation of sports betting regulations now.” Once finalized, they were start working on internal controls with the lottery gaming facility managers.

Quote from Christopher Boan, the lead analyst for BetKansas.com:

“Using Arizona’s launch as a model, the Grand Canyon State went through the same process last summer to green light their sports betting legislature to get up and running for NFL season. Based on the 147 days between the bill being signed and the actual launch of wagering in Arizona, we would tentatively expect an October 9th, 2022 launch in Kansas. ”
