14 November 2022: The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) underlining their common goal of promoting a regulated and secure sports betting market and the integrity of sport.
The two associations each represent a large number of the same operators, which constitute many of the sports betting market leaders in Germany and internationally. The DSWV and IBIA have therefore agreed to work in partnership and to coordinate their activities and efforts on betting and related integrity issues.
In their joint projects, the associations will pool their expertise on activities aimed at promoting a viable regulated sports betting market in Germany with high consumer channelling and related consumer, sports and operator integrity protection measures.
DSWV President Mathias Dahms said:
“The partnership between the German Sports Betting Association and IBIA is another welcome step forward for the German sports betting industry. With its many years of international experience and expertise in the field of sports integrity, the IBIA will support us in strengthening the regulated market and protecting it from manipulation. We therefore look forward to many joint projects and constructive cooperation.”
Khalid Ali, IBIA CEO, said:
“IBIA recognises the important work that the DSWV has done over the years in transforming the German regulated sports betting market. That market transformation is ongoing and betting integrity is a key part of that discussion. Indeed, the market provides a number of important opportunities and challenges for both of our associations and their respective members. IBIA looks forward to working closely with the DSWV to improve and protect the German sports betting market for consumers, sports and betting operators.”
About the International Betting Integrity Association
The International Betting Integrity Association is the leading global voice on integrity for the licensed betting industry. Our members share a common goal of combating betting corruption to protect the integrity of sport and their businesses. Established in 2005 and formerly known as ESSA, we are a not-for-profit association whose members include many of the world’s largest regulated betting operators, active across six continents. Members undergo a rigorous due diligence process and must adhere to our code of conduct committing them to responsible betting practices.
The International Betting Integrity Association’s Monitoring & Alert Network is a highly effective anti-corruption tool that detects and reports suspicious activity on its members’ betting markets. The bespoke system tracks transactional activity linked to individual consumer accounts, clearly distinguishing it from commercial monitoring systems focused on simple odds movements. The association has longstanding information-sharing partnerships with leading sports bodies including FIFA, UEFA, the ITIA and the IOC and many gambling regulators to utilise this data and prosecute corruption. The association maintains a policy of transparency and publishes quarterly integrity reports analysing activity reported on its network.
