Gkl S Korea

Grand Korea Leisure, which suspended operations of its casinos on March 24, has now reopened for business.

While Kangwon Land recently delayed its reopening to May 11, and associated organizations such as Korea Horse Racing Association are waiting until May 10, GKL opted to move forward at this time.

A GKL executive explained to the local media, “We plan to maintain the countermeasures that were applied prior to the suspension of business such as social distancing, temperature checks on visitors, and the mandatory wearing of masks.”

Simultaneously with the reopening, GKL executives held a meeting in Seoul and decided on an emergency management system for the firm to reevaluate workforce needs, the sales plan, budgetary outlays, and more

GKL President Yoo Tae-Yeol commented, “This is a difficult situation that we have never experienced before, but GKL is a public company, and we will do our best not only to stabilize our management, but also to create win-win initiatives with the tourism industry and local economies.”

Grand Korea Leisure operates three foreigner-only casinos under the Seven Luck brand. They reported a sharp 72 percent year-on-year decline in its March sales, and with the extension of the closure period into May, the April sales figure is guaranteed to fall to zero.
